Miesha Tate (12-2) vs. Ronda Rousey (4-0)
Meisha Tate will defend the Strikeforce 135 lbs championship against the undefeated Ronda Rousey. Rousey has taken female mixed martial arts by storm with her impressive submission victories and charisma. The war of words has been heated over the past three months as both women do not like each other. This is the 2nd time a female fight will headline a major MMA event.
The Facts:
Ronda Rousey won the Bronze medal in Judo at the 2008 Olympics in the 154 lbs weight class. She won all three of her amateur fights and all four of her professional fights under a minute by armbar. All of those fights were contested at 145 lbs, and this is her first fight at 135 lbs. She is strong as hell but has never gone past the first round, and more importantly, she has never been hit. Many feel Tate will have no answer if Rousey gets the fight to the ground.
Miesha Tate is riding a six-fight win streak. She submitted Marloes Coenen to capture the title last July. Coenen is considered the female Rickson Gracie of female MMA. That is the highest of compliments for any Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. Her striking game causes damage over the accumulation of many shots. She is often the smaller fighter.
