Tito Ortiz Confirms Retirement Fight at UFC 148 with Griffin

Tito Ortiz confirmed on his Twitter account that he will step into the cage against Forest Griffin at UFC 148 on Saturday, July 7th from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The two are 1-1 against each other with Ortiz winning a split decision in their first encounter at UFC 59 in 2006 and Griffin taking the second also via split decision at UFC 106 in 2009.

Ortiz’s went into their 2006 bout as the heavyweight favorite since Griffin was two victories in against sub-par opponents after winning the Ultimate Fighter season one. In a losing effort, Griffin proved to the world that he belonged in the upper echelon of the light heavyweight division.

Griffin secured the win in their second bout while coming off one of the most embarrassing losses in MMA history against Anderson Silva while this was Ortiz’s first fight back after an 18-month layoff due to back surgery. UFC 148 is turning into quite the event that will no doubt generate a lot of PPV buys
