Thoughts on the Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy

I stayed up late to watch the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and I’m not sure if I like what I saw? I’ve watched it seven more times since I just can’t get a lock on how I feel about it. Visually, it looks amazing, but I question if the subject matter has the juice to a sustainable film franchise.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Guardians fan. Their current comic book is one of the better releases in circulation and has its share of laughs. The movie doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously, so it’s staying true to the source material. However, that might work against Marvel since Iron Man 3 received a lot of flak for having too much comedy. Now, we have a Marvel comics movie with the humor dial turned up higher than it has ever been before.

I hope the movie will be embraced by the general audience to bring something different to the table instead of being dammed with faint praise because it can’t decide what it’s trying to be. If It’s a success, it will open the flood gates for Marvel to produce more movies that focus on their lesser-known characters.

Oh, I guarantee that Rocket Raccoon will become the next big thing in the Marvel cinematic universe if this movie kills at the box office. Toys, shirts, posters, and Halloween costumes will be everywhere!
