I normally don’t like to talk about politics, but when CNN sends me a phone notification that President-elect Donald Trump picked Linda McMahon, former CEO of WWE, to serve as the administrator of the Small Business Administration…well, I have to blog about it.

Linda McMahon’s appointment to some type of cabinet level position in Trump’s administration was rumored for some time. It’s not surprising considering Trump is a family friend of the McMahons, and more specifically, Linda’s husband, Vince McMahon.

In the late 80’s, Trump outbid every major venue in the country to bring WrestleMania 4 and WrestleMania 5 to Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. Those shows are famously known for the genesis and conclusion of the greatest story WWE ever booked.

McMahon and Trump also engaged in a Hair vs. Hair “Battle of the Billionaires” feud in 2007. WrestleMania 23 was the site of McMahon’s greatest defeat as his representative, Umaga, lost to Trump’s emissary, Bobby Lashley. Vince got his head shaved bald in front of a worldwide audience.

It was great business all around as the event drew over 80,000 people to Detroit’s Ford Field along with 1.25 million buys on pay-per-view.

Despite Linda’s two failed attempts for a Connecticut Senate Seat in 2010 and 2012, my preliminary research suggests that her experience might serve her well in holding this national office. While WWE doesn’t exactly scream small business, I’m going for optimism here.

I wonder if she’ll have to write a “Tip-Off Memo” or two during her time in this position? According to SBA.gov, she will administer how the agency helps train and finance small businesses and entrepreneurs. Helping Pat Patterson get the boys their “candy” is not in the job description.

No matter who anyone voted for on Election Day, the country lost in some respects. Could Linda McMahon be the cog in the wheel of Trump that begins the healing process? I don’t know. Will she even do a serviceable job in the role? Again, I don’t know.

What I do know is that I want her to succeed. And if she doesn’t, well, there might be another Stone Cold Stunner in her future.
