WWE will make history at Money in the Bank on June 18th. Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Carmella, and Tamina will compete in the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Shane McMahon made the announcement last night after a fatal five-way didn’t happen when a brawl ensued between the participants.
The winner will a receive a contract for a guaranteed SmackDown Women’s Championship match, anytime over the next twelve months. This match was rumored a few weeks ago with the last word indicating that WWE might hold off on the idea. Chatter on this match has been mixed with most of the opposition citing safety concerns for the ladies.
Looking at the talent in this match, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Natalya are as good as it gets. Carmella is still learning and her “friend that is a boy” James Ellsworth is probably in store for some type of spot. As for Tamina, well, depending on how people feel about her father that day, maybe we will see a Superfly splash off the ladder?
Women’s Champion Naomi doesn’t have a match for the show. While there is still time to book her in something, there are not a lot of options. Nikki Bella is still recovering from her injuries and Lana has yet to debut in her new role. Perhaps a one-night NXT call up or a mixed tag match could be the answer unless the plan is to have Naomi wait for the winner to emerge.
SmackDown Tag Team Title match was also announced as The Usos will defend against The New Day. Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods appeared on SmackDown for the first time since last month’s Superstar Shake-up and they broke the news of their opportunity.
Money in the Bank is another big step for the women’s division as a whole after Charlotte and Sasha Banks headlined in a Hell in a Cell match last October. With the way women’s matches go these days, it wouldn’t surprise me if they steal the show from the men’s ladder match.

I agree. I know she’s not in the match, but speaking of women wrestlers, Asuka has quickly become one of my favorite sports entertainers.
Asuka is legit. Unfortunately, she signed an NXT contract as opposed to a WWE contract. She could still be promoted to the main roster, but it little more difficult in her situation because WWE’s plans for her were primarily for NXT.
I can’t get enough of her. I love watching her matches. I know what you’re saying about NXT. Maybe Nia Jax could win the Women’s Championship and after they have her decimate all of the competition on RAW, Asuka could be elevated to the main roster to face Nix at The Royal Rumble or next year’s Wrestlemania. I am thinking Summer Slam would be too soon.
