Gael García Bernal Stars Alongside Bad Bunny in Trailer for Lucha Libre Biopic ‘Cassandro’

Prime Video has released the first trailer for Gael García Bernal’s charismatic performance in Cassandro, a wrestling biopic based on the true story of Saúl Armendáriz, a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, who rises to international stardom after he creates the character ‘Cassandro,’ the “Liberace of Lucha Libre.”

In the process, he upends not just the macho wrestling world, but also his own life. Based on a true story. Directed by Academy Award® winner Roger Ross Williams. The film is receiving stellar reviews due to Bernal’s stellar performance and holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cassandro stars Gael García Bernal (Marvel’s Werewolf by Night), Roberta Colindrez, Perla De La Rosa, Joaquín Cosío, and music megastar Bad Bunny, who is no stranger to the squared circle, who earned acclaim for his match at WrestleMania 37 and stole the show in May at Backlash defeating Damian Priest in a San Juan Street Fight.

El Hijo del Santo, son of the legendary Mexican cultural icon El Santo is set to make a special appearance in the film. El Hijo del Santo’s career was better than most second generation wrestlers, filled with memorable moments, including his feud with Negro Casas, and was instrumental in the careers of Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Trailer Review)

The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker dropped on Monday, and everyone has an opinion about it.

The first and second trailers each had that money shot moment with the reveals of Emperor Palpatine and Dark Rey. This trailer didn’t have that holy s— moment; however, it still gave me that epic feel of something special. Gorgeous imagery, powerful music, and what could be a sad goodbye from C-3PO latched on to the heartstrings like a vice grip.

One of the big questions surrounding the film was answered in the trailer as it was confirmed that it is the ruins of the second Death Star that will be explored in the movie.

Spaceships, spaceships, and more spaceships filled out the trailer, which hinted towards the space battle to end all space battles. I was delighted to see this because if this film is the end of the Skywalker saga, the climactic battle needs to be bigger than what we saw in Return of the Jedi.

It was kind of a bummer that absolutely nothing about the plot was revealed. Besides 3PO, there is no exchange of dialog between any of the characters. In fact, there was nothing revealed about the new characters and no footage of the much talked about Sith Troopers and Knights of Ren. There are a lot of quick cuts throughout the trailer, which leads me to believe Disney is keeping their cards close to their chest.

It’s risky move to hold back necessary information from a marketing perspective. Especially since The Last Jedi was incredibly divisive. Director JJ Abrams said the film will answer as many questions as possible. If that is true, the studio doesn’t want any of those answers revealed until the movie is released.

Overall, I liked the trailer. There were some missed opportunities, but it still got me super excited and counting down the days until December 20th. I really wanted to learn SOMETHING about the story. However, Star Wars is the only franchise in cinema that can release an all imagery trailer and still get people more excited than they were going in.

I already bought my tickets!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Trailer Review

The official trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on Monday night, along with the official movie poster. There are some beats borrowed from The Empire Strikes Back, however, it seems that they will be molded into something different.

Yes, there will a Jedi master reluctant to train the newbie with the refusal based on fear as opposed to doubt. Sleight of hand plot points round out the highly anticipated two minute and thirty-five-second preview of the Rian Johnson directed film.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer and Poster Review

The Road to Episode VII | My column @ Forces of Geek.com

Sometimes, J.J. Abrams’ “Mystery Box” approach to promoting a film can be frustrating. However, this time, he is running on all cylinders as the trailer gave us a lot without spoiling much of anything. I still have no idea what this movie is about, but the revealed footage made my imagination run wild with possibilities.

Kylo Ren standing over the scorched Darth Vader helmet and vowing, “Nothing will stand in our way. I will finish what you started.”  Wow, just, wow. What does that even mean? Did Vader have a grand design that none of us are aware of?

Does Kylo know that Vader turned good at the end of Return of the Jedi? We’ve had Sith lords that deal in absolutes, but never a dark side wielder that is clinically insane. What else do you call someone who keeps someone’s thirty-year-old head on a pedestal? Continue reading “Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer and Poster Review”
