AEW: New Title, Same Ol’ Stuff

Tony Khan announced Wednesday on Dynamite that AEW has “leveled up” the All-Atlantic Championship, and it’s now the AEW International Championship. Orange Cassidy will make the title’s inaugural defense against Jeff Jarrett next week on Dynamite when AEW debuts in Winnipeg.

Nine months ago, the All-Atlantic Championship was created to represent AEW fans in the United Kingdom. AEW touts they are the #1 wrestling promotion in the UK via their presence on television.

Plus, the British Isles are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. In a nutshell, it was AEW’s way of creating a UK Title without calling it the UK Title.

However, the physical belt had a geographical error. Japan, which resides in the pacific ocean, is one of six countries represented on the title’s main center plate.

The current design of the title will remain intact. Simply the wording is changed from All Atlantic to International.

Is ROH Bluffing with HonorClub Relaunch?

A gambler once said you got to know when to hold’em, know when to fold’em, and know when to walk away. Tony Khan’s bid to land a television deal for Ring of Honor (ROH) nine months after purchasing the company yielded an uninspired result.

On the heels of Ring of Honor’s Final Battle pay-per-view event on Saturday, Tony Khan announced the promotion’s HonorClub streaming service has officially relaunched with new weekly television episodes coming soon to the platform.

Don’t Call it a Promo: MJF’s Pipe Bomb

Art imitated life last Wednesday when Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) put on a scathing worked shoot rant that stole the show. His legitimate contract dispute with Tony Khan was used to convey a prohibited sense of astonishment.

MJF’s profane rhetoric laced with authentic and harsh criticism lobbied against Khan, and AEW was one of the most well delivered and passionate performances in a long, long time.

However, it didn’t sell anything.

The Ballad of MJF’s Contract

I usually don’t like talking about contract issues because those matters are private between the talent and the promoter. However, I was recently reminded, “Kid, that’s the business we’re in.”

Fightful.com reported that AEW president Tony Khan and MJF had a heated conversation stemming from MJF being unhappy with his contract and doing an Ariel Helwani interview without AEW’s permission.

More trouble in paradise was reported on Thursday by Fightful as MJF is still frustrated by his contract and is considering leaving AEW when his contract expires in November 2024.

Revolution Ends With A Dud

All Elite Wrestling’s first pay-per-view of the year, Revolution, started strong, then fizzled for a bit and picked back up with a fantastic main event. Kenny Omega defended the AEW World Championship against former champion Jon Moxley in an Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match. Both wrestlers worked extremely hard and told an edge of your seat story, making great use of the environment. Sadly, like a great movie with a bad ending, the only thing people will remember about the match is the dud of a finish.
