Now that the Royal Rumble is in the rear view mirror, everyone wants to know what’s going to happen on April 2 when WrestleMania 33 WrestleMania emanates from the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL.
The rumored card, and I stress rumored, card has made its way online with several web sites and various sources confirming what WWE creative (i.e. Vince McMahon) has planned for this year’s showcase of the immortals.
As of right now, only one half of a match is officially confirmed. Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton will face the WWE Champion. John Cena is the current title holder, but another wrestler is heavily rumored to hold the gold by the time WrestleMania rolls around.
Rumored WrestleMania Lineup:
- WWE Universal Champion: Goldberg (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
Lesnar already laid down the challenge on Raw for one more match with Goldberg at WrestleMania. With Goldberg allegedly booked to win the Universal Championship from Kevin Owens in one months’ time at Fastlane, this is truly the hardest match to predict for a variety of unknown variables.
What if Goldberg is only capable of working short length matches? A two minute main event at WrestleMania would cause a riot in the streets, well, at least online. Could the unthinkable happen in Lesnar losing three straight?
We all assumed we knew the finish the last time they squared off against each other at a WrestleMania? If this match is set to close the show, it will need to look half as good when the bell rings as it will on a billboard.- WWE World Championship: Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Randy Orton
Randy Orton, in a world title match at WrestleMania, seems a little odd since he hasn’t been in the main event scene since his return this last summer from injury. WWE is in a drought when it comes to making new stars, so reviving one by having him win the Royal Rumble is a good idea.
As for Bray Wyatt, well, if again, the rumors are true, he’s penciled in to win the WWE title in two weeks at Elimination Chamber. Wyatt finally getting a singles title is pretty cool, but it only being a transitional role puts a little bit of a damper on it.
- Raw Women’s Championship: Charlotte (c) vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax
If I was booking this show, Bayley would win the Raw women’s title. Probably the easy decision to make here. The ultimate underdog finally winning the championship at WrestleMania is story that writes itself.
- Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns
Undertaker/Reigns is the most curious pairing on the list. The seeds of their forthcoming feud were planted at the Royal Rumble. No one was clamoring to see this match and if WWE is stilling trying to position the Roman Empire to rule all, beating the Deadman at WrestleMania is fools errand.
Unless a heel turn is……..Nah.
- Triple H vs. Seth Rollins
If Seth Rollins recent injury is legit, then he’s going to be out of action for 3-6 months. Then the questions becomes, who is going to play the game?
- Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho
We saw this match coming a mile away. Two egomaniacs who are “best friends” always breakup in the world of wrestling. This pairing in particular will make for some great TV heading into Mania. It should also be a great match, too.
- AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon
This is a weird one since there has been no on screen feud or confrontations as of yet. Styles is the best worker in the business right now. Seeing him wrestle anyone that’s not on his level is a disappointment on paper.
However, Shane McMahon is crazy and can pull off impressive things when the moment calls for it. Styles can do the same and in an even more impressive fashion, which could make for a jaw dropping spectacle. After all, any match with a McMahon is a high profile affair.
- John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. The Miz & Maryse
A former WWE writer revealed a few weeks ago on Twitter that John Cena’s involvement at WrestleMania would be underwhelming for fans. Well, if this mixed tag match becomes reality, it will be just that, underwhelming for wrestling fans. Those who watch the product for drama and enjoy the reality show, Total Divas, will eat this up.
The E! Network will most likely help WWE promote this match since all four individuals appear on the show. Needless to say, this could be one of the most anticipated matches on the card for the mainstream audience. Plus, both real life couples get their own WrestleMania moment together.
– What’s The Finish?:
If this card holds up, it should be pretty good considering it’s a far cry from the earlier rumors of Cena/Taker or Styles/Nakamura, however, Reigns/Taker is better than Reigns/Strowman. Speaking of Strowman, he’s nowhere to be found on this lineup. The big man was alleged paired with several wrestlers at one point and now he’s riding the bench?
Overall, this rumored card screams sports entertainment as opposed to professional wrestling. WrestleMania is a spectacle more than anything else. Great moments as opposed to great matches is clearly the goal here. And you know what, that’s not a bad thing.
