Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs earned a SmackDown Tag Team Title match set for night one of WrestleMania 38. Boogs defeated “Main Event” Jey Uso on SmackDown Friday night after tricking him into thinking his leg was injured. Per the stipulation, Boogs and Nakamura get a title shot at the “Showcase of the Immortals.”
Nakamura is a former SmackDown Tag Team title holder with Cesaro and will compete in his third WrestleMania while his partner, Boogs, will make his debut on the “Grandest Stage.” The Usos are multi-time tag team champions who will also appear on their third WrestleMania card as a team.
Some fans are disappointed the challengers are not an official tag team. While I’m a traditionalist when it comes to my rasslin’, I will draw a line here. In today’s WWE, established duos that aren’t necessarily ranked in the top ten not only have their share of tag team matches but eventually vie for the gold.
Heck, screw today’s WWE. How about WWE for all time. Besides, Nakamura and Boogs are the most popular duo/tag team not named RK-Bro. In the storyline, they gamed The Usos into a title match with the stipulation on SmackDown.
