IMPACT Wrestling Results 5/5/22 – Monsters Ball & Ishii vs. Maclin

We kick off things with a Tables Match.

  • Tables Match: Brian Myers vs. W. Morrissey:

Morrissey and Myers trade shots in the center of the ring until Morrissey outpowers Myers and punishes him in the corner. Morrissey delivers a sidewalk slam and goes outside to set up a table. Myers hits Morrissey with a top rope plancha to prevent the table from being set up.

Commentary says Morrissey is not at 100% due to his match with Wardlow last night on AEW Dynamite.

Myers slides the table in the ring but gets mauled by Morrissey for his trouble. Morrissey pulls another table out from underneath the ring and tries to set it up, but Myers runs interference. Myers finishes setting up the table, gets cut off, and slides out of a powerbomb from Morrissey.

Myers hangs Morrissey out to dry on the apron and is barely able to suplex him back into the ring. Morrissey regains control and attempts another powerbomb until Matt Cardona runs in to make the save. The Major Players hit Morrissey with a double-team vertical suplex.

Morrissey comes back and chokeslams Cardona and Myers at the same time. Chelsea Green runs in and tries to hit Morrissey with the Digital Media Title. Morrissey blocks it and tries to powerbomb Green until Cardona hits Morrissey with the title belt. Morrissey escapes a triple powerbomb attempt from the apron to the table.

Cardona and Myers tried to put the table through Morrissey as he was leaning on the ring post, but Morrissey ducked out of the way. Cardona retreats up the ramp, but Jordynne Grace cuts him off and gives him a spinebuster in the ring. Morrissey gives Cardona a big boot as Grace power bombed him through a table.

Grace chases off Green, and Morrissey hits Myers with a black hole slam and powerbombs Myers over the top rope onto the floor through a table for the win.

Winner: W. Morrissey

The Major Players interrupt a backstage interview with Willie Mack and Rich Swann as they’re reeling from the match with Morrissey. Swann takes exception, and Cardona says maybe he would still be a world champion if he shared the same attitude.

How I See It: Crossing the Streams

**I usually don’t comment about the promotions I work for outside the realm of color commentary, as it could be seen as a conflict of interest.

However, I see what other people don’t, and the match between Derek Simonetti and Sean Leiter, tomorrow night at Proving Ground’s Crossing the Streams, hits a little differently.

Again, I see what others don’t.**

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

It’s a lesson Proving Ground president Derek Simonetti has learned the hard way in recent weeks by crossing the streams more than he could have imagined. Amid putting on a benefit show are accusations of self-dealing. If that’s not enough gasoline on the fire, Simonetti has drawn the ire of the new Proving Ground Heavyweight Champion, Sean Leiter.

Kushida Leaves WWE

Fightful reported that Kushida has left WWE after his contract expired.

Kushida signed with WWE in 2019. He won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship and had some standout matches with Walter, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunn, Santos Escobar, and Kyle O’Reilly. Following his Cruiserweight Title loss, Kushida formed a team with Ikemen Jiro and became known as Jacket Time.

Kushida’s final NXT appearance occurred on last week’s episode. He was initially scheduled to face Von Wager but was taken out in a backstage attack by Wager. Jiro took Kushida’s place in a losing effort to Wagner. His final match aired on the 3/25 episode of NXT LVL UP as Jacket Time lost to Malik Blade and Edris Enofe, with Kushida taking the fall.

Who Will Dethrone Roman Reigns?

Another WrestleMania is in the books, and Roman Reigns is the unified WWE Universal Champion. The question of who will dethrone “The Tribal Chief” is a hot-button topic. The issue has intensified even more now that Roman holds the WWE Championship and Universal Championship, allowing him to appear on Raw and SmackDown for the foreseeable future. However, Roman won’t hold both belts forever.

Elevation requires separation, and with the brand split staying the course, the company will only go for so long without a champion on each of its flagship shows. Eventually, the titles will be separated, and Reigns will remain the Universal Champion because it is the title that encompasses his historic run. The title itself is only five years old, and while it’s front and center on the championship spectrum, it lacks a legendary reign that Roman can obtain.

What I’m about to say I’ve only uttered to a handful of people, but now it’s time to unleash my bold prediction. Roman Reigns will be Universal Champion until WrestleMania 40. Yep, that’s right, two years from now, eclipsing Pedro Morales on the all-time list as the 5th longest title reign.

What About Wes Lee?

Over the past two weeks, the highly volatile personal situation between NXT’s Nash Carter and his wife, IMPACT Wrestling’s Kimber Lee, was a top news item. It got uglier with each passing day, including domestic violence allegations hurled against Carter.

It’s a controversial topic with many talking heads. Last Monday, Kimber Lee released a photo of Carter imitating Hitler, and WWE released the 27-year-old two days later. However, there is one question many are not asking.

What about Wes Lee?
