Alistair Overeem is the Smartest Guy in the Room

20140201111653_5D3_9959

Alistair Overeem is receiving criticism for his post-fight interview at UFC 169. Following his unanimous decision victory over Frank Mir, Overeem said, “I heard there’s word that Brock Lesnar is about to come back to the UFC. Well I’ll be here waiting for him.” The resentment is reasonable but you can’t blame him for taking advantage of a situation that could mean a high-profile fight. The Ugly Truth: Frank Mir vs. Alistair Overeem

Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem

Twelve months ago, we assumed Alistair Overeem would steamroll over Antonio” Bigfoot” Silva to earn a heavyweight title shot. We also assumed that Frank Mir was going to bounce back into contention like had done before. Instead, it was Overeem who was steamrolled by Silva and has been knocked out two straight times while Mir has lost three in a row in an unimpressive fashion. They will fight each other this Saturday at UFC 169 in a bout that could very well see the loser cut from the promotion. Continue reading “The Ugly Truth: Frank Mir vs. Alistair Overeem”

Benson Henderson and Josh Thompson will headline UFC on Fox this Saturday night in Chicago, Illinois. Henderson is coming off his lightweight title loss and looking to leap-frog back into title contention. Thompson’s shot at UFC gold was derailed due to an Anthony Pettis shoulder injury, and he will have to deal with one tough consolation prize. Howl With The Wolf Of Wall Street

the-wolf-of-wall-street

Cinema Salem hosted a special cinematography panel for The Wolf of Wall Street, and I learned a lot of things about film production. Cinema Salem owner Paul Van Ness said The Wolf of Wall Street is his theaters most walked out on film. Fans in attendance, which had before seen the film, voiced their opinion on the walkouts, and a debate spawned about the message of the film. Does it glorify greed, or is it a lesson in the dangers of self-indulgence?

WTF: Bigfoot Fails UFC Post Fight Drug Test

There is no single MMA aficionado, fighter, or journalist who thought UFC Fight Night 34 would produce the greatest heavyweight fight in history. That is exactly what happened when Mark Hunt and Antonio Bigfoot’ Silva delivered a bloody epic that will become a legendary night where years from now, those that were fortunate enough to see it live will say, “Remember when Hunt fought Bigfoot?!”

The Resurrection of Darth Vader

DarthVader

Not much is known about what J.J. Abrams has planned for the next Star Wars film. Rumors are circulating, but those are even few and far between. This is a good sign that everyone in the creative process is on the same page in keeping things quiet. I have a theory about one major thing that will occur in Episode VII. Darth Vader will not only be in the movie, but he will be a major part of the story.

I have absolutely nothing to back this up with. My gut tells me that Disney really wants him in the film. It would be an instant cash grab to introduce the Sith lord to a new generation of fans. Besides, everything in the Star Wars universe revolves around Darth Vader, and finding a smooth and plausible explanation for his resurrection is the key ingredient in making this work.

My imagination is running wild with all sorts of ideas on how this could be accomplished. Maybe the Ewoks are really Sith lords, and they put Luke Skywalker under some sort of force hypnosis and snatched Vader’s body before he lit the fire?
