The Ballad of MJF’s Contract

I usually don’t like talking about contract issues because those matters are private between the talent and the promoter. However, I was recently reminded, “Kid, that’s the business we’re in.”

Fightful.com reported that AEW president Tony Khan and MJF had a heated conversation stemming from MJF being unhappy with his contract and doing an Ariel Helwani interview without AEW’s permission.

More trouble in paradise was reported on Thursday by Fightful as MJF is still frustrated by his contract and is considering leaving AEW when his contract expires in November 2024.

CM Punk vs. Hangman Page set for AEW Double or Nothing

CM Punk will challenge Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing on Saturday, May 29, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The match was announced last night on Dynamite while CM Punk was doing commentary for the Dax Harwood/Cash Wheeler match.

The match was teased last week when Punk had a surprise staredown with Page after his match with Dustin Rhodes. Double or Nothing will be Punk’s first shot at the AEW crown, which Page has held since he defeated Kenny Omega at Full Gear last November.

AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door Set for June 26 in Chicago

The forbidden door is no longer just a cool catchphrase.

Tony Khan announced last night on Dynamit that AEW and NJPW will hold a joint pay-per-view aptly titled Forbidden Door. The show is set for Sunday, June 26, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

AEW president Tony Khan and NJPW president Takami Ohbari appeared on stage to make the announcement but were interrupted by AEW’s Adam Cole and NJPW’s Jay White who filled in the blanks regarding the event’s details.

CM Punk and Dax Harwood: A Love Letter to Bret Hart’s Legacy

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, AEW Dynamite opened with admiration for an all-time great on Wednesday. CM Punk defeated FTR’s Dax Harwood in a match of the year candidate; however, the story lies with the appreciation shown for a certain “Excellence of Execution.”

The Undertaker: A Hall of Fame of his Own

Mark Calaway, better known as The Undertaker, will headline the 2022 class of the WWE Hall of Fame on April 1 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The ceremony will occur following that night’s go-home edition of SmackDown.

There’s been a lot of talk about how WWE should present this year’s Hall of Fame. Independent film director and screenwriter Guthrie Roy Hartford of the Jobber Knocker Podcast had a great idea. He suggested Undertaker should be the sole inductee this year, with multiple inductors telling stories about “The Deadman.”

It’s one hell of an idea, and I’m here to tell you why.

Lethal is All Elite: What Does It Mean?

The first defection from Ring of Honor was revealed on Saturday night at AEW Full Gear. Former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal declared himself “All Elite” in an interview with Tony Schiavone, and he challenged Sammy Guevara to a TNT Title match tonight on Dynamite.

Last month, ROH announced they’re going on hiatus after Final Battle on December 11. The promotion informed talent that the company wouldn’t have their contracts renewed and can immediately work wherever they want.

Lethal talked about singing with AEW at the Full Gear media scrum, stating, “It all happened so quickly, a few days ago.” Lethal also stated he had about a month left on his ROH deal and would not be at Final Battle pay-per-view.

Despite ROH’s hiatus announcement, many feel the promotion is closing for good. Sadly, it’s a safe assumption to make based on history. Many promotions, small and big alike, have had to cease operations with the hope of coming back, only to be never seen again.

It’s a tale as old as time in the wrestling business.

AEW 2021 Full Gear Review

“We’re proud of you” – The Graphics Team on Adam Page’s nameplate as he made his entrance to the ring for the biggest match of his career encapsulated the importance of AEW’s Full Gear.

Full Gear started as a tongue-in-cheek joke with Cody Rhodes yelling at Adam Page on The Elite’s YouTube show, BTE. 2 years later, it all came full circle with Adam Page ending Kenny Omega’s near year-long reign as AEW World Champion.

While Jericho and Moxley held the title before Omega’s memorable run, it was always about Adam Page.
