AJ Styles vs. Edge is the latest match added to WrestleMania 38 on April 2 and April 3 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Edge blindsided Styles with a kick below the belt at the end of Monday Night Raw and gave him two conchairtos. Six matches are official, with several more rumored.

What kind of a world is this where Cody Rhodes gets more press than Stone Cold Steve Austin? Amid rumors of Austin’s expected return at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes’ exit from All Elite Wrestling has dominated the news cycle. It’s a shocking development that could favor WWE just in time for WrestleMania.
I waited until after last Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in case Cody’s departure was a work. There was no mention of Cody save for a brief nod to Cody’s chain match with Brodie Lee on commentary. Sports Illustrated reported that Cody could start with WWE soon.

Fightful.com broke the news last night that WWE has made overtures to Stone Cold Steve Austin for a match at WrestleMania 38 on April 2 and April 3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. WrestlingObserver.com confirmed the plan is for Austin to wrestle Kevin Owens.
Austin’s final match occurred at WrestleMania 19 in 2003, where he lost to The Rock. Austin’s retirement stemmed from a neck injury due to bungled piledriver from Owen Hart at SummerSlam 1997.
WWE has made offers to Austin over the years for an in-ring return, but he always declined. However, this rumor is not chalked up to the typical offer and refusal. The story has enough steam behind where it could happen.
The big question is if Austin is indeed wrestling a match at WrestleMania, why now?
Many variables come to mind when deciphering why the biggest superstar in wrestling history will lace’ Em up again after a prolonged absence. The answer could be as simple as ‘They always come back, eventually.”
However, the economics of the situation paints a clearer picture.

Shane McMahon won’t be winning employee of the month in WWE. RingsideNews.com reported that all creative plans for Shane have been dropped and he was “quietly let go” by his father, Vince McMahon, and is “out of the company.”

The road to WrestleMania officially kicked off on Saturday night with the Royal Rumble from The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis.
Lots of excitement going into the event not only because it’s the freaking Royal Rumble, but there was no clear front runner on who would win the Rumble matches, like in years past.
However, rumors during the week gave away the finish to the women’s Rumble, while the fate of the men’s Rumble became evident a couple of hours into the show.
Wrestling fans have been dreaming of a match between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley from the moment Lashley made his WWE debut on September 23, 2005. Now, the dream is a reality. Lesnar will defend the WWE Championship against Lashley at the Royal Rumble on January 29 in St. Louis, Missouri.

WWE ends the year with one more talent departure as Toni Storm is no longer with the company. Fightful.com broke the news yesterday afternoon, and Wrestling Observer reported that Storm quit due to burnout.

WWE fired Jeff Hardy last Thursday after being sent home following a house show four days earlier. After tagging out, Hardy inexplicably left the match and hung out in the crowd. Video of the incident spread quickly on social media. Allegedly, he was impaired and under the influence.

Fair or unfair, NXT specials going forward will always be compared to the TakeOver events of the past. WarGames, the first pay-per-view of the 2.0 era, was essentially a tale of two cities. The two cages matches and the tag title bout were reminiscent of the Black and Gold regime. Everything else felt like something from an episode of the brand’s contemporary offerings.
