New Japan Pro Wrestling held the opening rounds of the 23rd annual Best of the Super Juniors Tournament over the weekend. This year, sixteen wrestlers were split into two separate round robin tournament blocks (A & B), where a wrestler scores two points for winning, one point for a draw, and zero points for losing.

The two wrestlers with the most points in their respective blocks will face each other in the finals on June 7th where the winner, sans KUSHIDA who is the current champ, will receive an IWGP Jr Heavyweight title match.

I super excited for this year’s tournament because it’s the first time I can watch the matches live on New Japan Pro Wrestling’s streaming service www.newjapanworld.com. In the past, I would have to either wait about after the tournament to watch it on DVD or stumble upon on upload on Youtube.  Continue reading “New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors Night 1 & 2 Report”

Reports have surfaced regarding CM Punk’s MMA training, and they’re not good. If this is true, what does the future hold for the former WWE superstar, and will he ever fight in the UFC? PWInsider.com reported that WWE has parted ways with Steve Lombardi, otherwise known as the Brooklyn Brawler, after 30 years of being in the company’s employ. Lombardi was quietly released by the company last week as WWE, in the midst of what has been labeled as “Spring Cleaning”, regarding ten wrestlers and backstage interviewers who have recently been released.  Continue reading “WWE Releases Brooklyn Brawler after 30 Years”

Is Shane McMahon as RAW GM a WWE Ratings Experiment?

Despite Shane McMahon losing to the Undertaker at WrestleMania 32, Shane was running Monday Night Raw for the last three weeks. While it’s something the fans want to see, will it last, or is this just a ratings experiment?

Adam Kohn and I talk about this in detail on our Raw after show, Breaking Raw. If you enjoy this YouTube clip, check out the show in its entirety at Gerweck.net: Pro Wrestling Since 1997

WWE Suspends Adam Rose and Konnor

WWE announced this morning that Adam Rose and Konnor of the Ascension have both been suspended for 60 days for a second Wellness policy violation. There is more to this story than meets the eye as this announcement exposes some of the holes in WWE’s wellness policy.

Check out the video from the official You Tube channel of Gerweck.net where I break it all down.

WWE WrestleMania 32 Review

wm32divas
Sorry for the late WrestleMania review. I was a little under the weather this past week. I also needed time to process this event. It wasn’t a bad show by any means, however, it also wasn’t the grand slam event that it could have been. Besides the super-hyped and unexpected return of Shane McMahon, the show had a lackluster build up over the past five weeks. AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas was the setting for this year’s lineup of 11 matches, all with the design to break WWE’s all-time attendance record.

Trailer Reaction: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

12985470_1529123347395080_6030901234304517754_n

I’ve been skeptical of these Star Wars spin-off movies since the moment they were announced by Disney. Going backwards scares me because of how badly prequels turned out. After seeing the teaser trailer for Rogue One, the first word that comes to mind is….WOW!  Continue reading “Trailer Reaction: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

The 15th Anniversary of The Death of WCW – 3/26/01

This month marks the 15th anniversary of WWF buying WCW in a move that changed the landscape of professional wrestling. In 2001 it seemed like the best thing in the world. Today, that might not be case anymore.

Frank Dee and I talk about the pros, cons, rumors of the sale along with our favorite memories of World Championship Wrestling. Click here to check out The Raw Deal in its entirety at Gerweck.net.

Review: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (non-spoilers)

After three years, it’s finally here. The two titans of the superhero genre lock horns to usher in the shared DC Film Universe. The plot revolves around the clashing of ideologies between Batman and Superman as they each deal with their struggles. Kal-El now resides in a world where public opinion is divided on whether or not a God-like being should exist in society.

The Caped Crusader is fueled by the tragic events that occurred at the end of Man of Steel, compounded by the constant grief he carries due to the murder of his parents. This grief pushes him to launch his war with the staunch belief that if he can’t put the unstoppable in check, nobody can.

There are a lot of different ways that people are going to look at this movie. Film purists will curse “BvS” with utter conviction due to its overstuffed narrative.

WrestleMania 32 = WWE’s Largest Crowd Ever Already?

WrestleMania 23 on April 1, 2007, at Ford Field in Detroit, the real attendance was 74,687, however, the announced number was 80,103. While that is an increase of over 5,000 attendees, WWE always inflates the number, promote it as the real deal, and refer to it as an “entertainment” number when called on the numbers legitimacy.

The Wrestling Observer reported that over 84,000 tickets have been sold for WrestleMania 32 on April 3rd, at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. Frank Dee and I compare this number with some of the real and fake WWE attendance numbers of years past.
