Why Transformers: Age of Extinction Falls Flat

transformers4

I had the displeasure of watching a heaping pile of rubbish explode onto a movie screen called Cade Yeager Saves the World. You probably know it by its more popular name. Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Let’s get this out of the way. I’m not a Michael Bay hater by any means. I’m a big fan of the first Transformers film, loathe the second one with unbridled passion, and enjoyed the third one. However, this installment brought nothing new to the table, and that’s the least of its problems.

Godzilla Review

Godzilla_(2014)_poster

Warning: There will be spoilers!

Warner Bros. was given 93.2 million reasons to immediately announce the development of a sequel for Godzilla as he made a roaring return to the silver screen. There were some amazing things to behold, and there were some lackluster elements that almost dragged the film past the point of no return. However, the King of Monsters would not be denied. Reaction to the Star Wars: Episode VII Casting Announcement

episodeviicast
The force is strong in this room.

The Star Wars universe is on fire with the recent announcement of the central cast for Episode VII. The original cast of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker will join newcomers, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnal Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Andy Serkis, and Daisy Ridley. While this lineup has received a lot of praise, Ridley being listed as the only new female newbie is the elephant in the room. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spins A Web of Mixed Results

Sony’s decision to reboot the Spider-Man movie franchise so soon after Sam Rami’s trilogy of films was damned with faint praise, which was the reaction to their first film, even though it made over $750,000,000 worldwide. Director Marc Webb’s second installment of The Amazing Spider-Man has also received a tangled web of criticism. I understand why people liked AMS 1 even though I feel it was an uninspired telling of the wall crawler’s exploits. This time around, despite some of its problems, I enjoyed AMS 2.

Two Flaps Up For Rio 2

rio_two_ver10_0

My wife and I brought our nieces to see Rio 2 last week. Despite all the negative reviews, we had a blast. Still, some of the reviews bother me a little bit. Various outlets critiqued the film as if it was a Shakespearean play gone tragically wrong. I think the fact that Rio 2 is a children’s flick is lost on some.

Star Wars: Clone Wars – Lost Missions Review

Star Wars: The Clone Wars ended in the wake of Disney’s acquisition of Lucas Film. Thanks to the kind folks at Netflix, the last season has seen the light of day. The sixth season dubbed “The Lost Missions” delivers four-story arcs over thirteen episodes that deliver a little something for every Star Wars fan. Time to Have Fun With Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery

Full disclosure. I’m a sucker for crossover events that involve my favorite childhood pastimes. So it should come as no surprise that I marked out ridiculously when the trailer for Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery hit the web. Think about this: as popular as wrestling was in the ’80s, Hulk Hogan never teamed up with our Scooby snacking canine. Now, our current crop of WWE Superstars joins the historic lineup of such luminaries as The Three Stooges, The Harlem Globetrotters, and Batman and Robin for some mystery-solving shenanigans.

Everything is Awesome with The Lego Movie

the-lego-movie-poster-full-photo

I hated Legos growing up because my creativity laid dormant at the sight of those colorful interlocking bricks. Those around me could build wondrous worlds in the blink of an eye. I hid behind the notion that He-Man and Transformers were much cooler, which helped to justify my disdain. I recently watched a movie starring these same toys, and while I didn’t expect much, I took away so much from this movie. Continue reading “Everything is Awesome with The Lego Movie”

Thoughts on the Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy

I stayed up late to watch the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and I’m not sure if I like what I saw? I’ve watched it seven more times since I just can’t get a lock on how I feel about it. Visually, it looks amazing, but I question if the subject matter has the juice to a sustainable film franchise. RoboCop Saves Sting From The Four Horsemen

RobocopAndSting

In honor of the RoboCop reboot hitting movie theaters today, I feel it’s only appropriate to reminisce about one of wrestling’s greatest moments. Ok, I’m joking. People hated it and its widely considered the most preposterous publicity stunt in the history of wrestling. As a nine-year-old kid who thought wrestling was real, I loved it. My imagination ran wild with possibilities as the cybernetic law enforcement officer found a new partner in a man called Sting. Continue reading “RoboCop Saves Sting From The Four Horsemen”
