Does Big Cass Need Better Promo Skills?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKCopAqHl58

Last week on Monday Night Raw, Big Cass had to go it alone on the microphone due to the injury Enzo Amore suffered at WWE Payback. Some feel Big Cass did well on his own while others share the opposite opinion. Adam Kohn and I debate this topic on the official Raw aftershow of Gerweck.net, Breaking Raw!

Stephanie McMahon Stole The Show on Raw

The corrupt authority figure is an exhausted crutch in the storytelling that is a part of professional wrestling. While many have assumed the position, few have flourished in the role. Vince McMahon was the best in this situation because not only does he really own WWE, but more importantly, he is not afraid to show his ass…sometimes literally. I have to give props to Stephanie McMahon for her performance as of late. Triple H never shows weakness or vulnerability, so his character is easy to tune out. Stephanie, on the other hand, is doing things differently. Continue reading “Stephanie McMahon Stole The Show on Raw”

The Miz: The Next Great IC Champ?

(Column I wrote for Gerweck.net)

I could be completely wrong about this, but The Miz could be the next great Intercontinental champion. The former Real World star became the 70th person to hold the title when he defeated Christian on the 1000th episode of Raw. He also became the 25th triple crown champion.

Some might say this is a demotion for the former WWE champion. However, some of the greatest wrestlers of all time held the IC title after a stint with the big boy belt. HHH, Chris Jericho, Pedro Morales are three who come to mind. Countless others made their reputation during their IC title reigns such as Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Monday Night Raw Going Permanently To Three Hours In July

If I was still an innocent wrestling fan who never discovered the IWC, read a newsletter or smartened up by my time on the independent scene, I would have been ecstatic about Raw moving to three hours on a permanent basis. My sense of occasion is non-existent because the company can barely write an entertaining two hour show, and three hours runs a great risk of watering down the product and burning out the fans. The ratings are always down during the first hour of a  three hour Raw because people forget about the earlier start time and let’s face it, the steak and potatoes are not on the plate until the beginning of the second hour.

Quick Rant on Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena

courtesy of wwe.com

It’s official folks. Brock Lesnar will wrestle John Cena at Extreme Rules on April 29th in Chicago, Illinois. This will be Lesnar’s first WWE match in eight years and his first professional wrestling match in 4 ½ years. The WWE’s ineptitude to book talent the right way is staggering. You can’t book Lesnar like he is everybody else. The ratings have already suffered as they were down 3 points from last week . He has a presence unlike anyone on the roster and the legitimacy to boot. The company’s booking formula of everyone sounding and looking the same is bordering on obsolete.

Brock Lesnar Officially Returns to The WWE and Takes Out Cena on Raw

Brock Lesnar made his return to the WWE after eight years and delivered an F5 to John Cena to close out Monday Night Raw. He didn’t cut a promo. Just circled the ring before attacking Cena. Lesnar signed a one year deal with the promotion over Wrestlemania weekend. The crowd inside the American Airlines Arena went bonkers when Lesnar’s music hit. People were jumping up and down like kids on Christmas morning.
