The Elimination Chamber was the last major stop on the road to WrestleMania and it left a mixed bag of results with the good heavily outweighing the mediocre. This also marks the end of the traditional PPV era as future shows will air on the WWE Network. I think it’s fitting that it went out with a good main event and great hope for the future. Last weeks episode of Monday Night Raw ended with a frenzy of “YES” chants when Daniel Bryan turned babyface, after two weeks of being a heel, he laid out Bray Wyatt in the middle of the ring. It was the perfect scenario as Bryan had his nemesis all to himself and locked in a steel cage. The live crowd can make or break a match because they provide that intangible “thing” that makes a moment so special. However, in general, crowd reactions aren’t as vociferous as they once were.

There is an inconvenient truth when it comes wrestlers in the WWE. It doesn’t matter how good their matches are, how hard they work, how loud the audience cheers for them, how good they make the company look in the media, or how much merchandise they sell. In the end, it’s all about John Cena and Randy Orton. It’s always been about them and until a new era is ushered in, nothing will ever change that. For the last eight years, no one has been booked stronger or protected more than Cena and Orton. They are the two performers that the company has put their faith in to lead them to the promised land because more than anyone else on the roster, they embody what it means to be a sports entertainer and not a professional wrestler.

The showcase of the immortals is upon us once again as the 28th installment of Wrestlemania takes place this Sunday in Miami, Florida. The main course will consist of two world title matches, Hell in a Cell and the biggest professional matches to come down the pipe in years. (Column I wrote for gerweck.net)

On Monday night May 17, 1993, at the age of 12, I was marking out like a kid on Christmas because Marty Jannetty had just returned from a four month sabbatical. He got in the ring and challenged Shawn Michaels for the Intercontinental title.
When Raw came back form commercial Razor Ramon made his way to the ring to wrestle someone Howard Finkel called “The Kid”. Having no interest in seeing Razor destroy a jobber, I went into the kitchen to make a sandwich. When I got back into my room I saw the fans in the Manhattan Center jumping for joy as they saw that jobber beat Razor Ramon.
The next day at school everyone was talking about the wrestler now called the 1-2-3 Kid coming out of no where to pin “The Bad Guy”. At that point I said to myself I will never miss a big time moment like that again.
