Robocop #2 Review

Robocop was the first R-Rated movie I indulged in, long before I was deemed to be the appropriate age by the Motion Picture Film Association of America. Ah, babysitters can be a child’s best friend. I’ve always had an affinity for the story because of how it doesn’t take itself too seriously while taking everything else seriously to produce the story of a cybernetic law enforcement officer. Jumping from the silver screen to the page, the majority of Robocop comic books are horrible because they fail to capture, at least, the core essential elements of the titular character. Evil Empire #3 Review

Max Bemis’ work on his debut series Polarity was trip down the rabbit hole of depression with a superhero spin to it. His writing spoke to me on so many levels because I felt the authenticity in his words which stems from his battle with bipolar disorder. UFC’s Calendar Craze

It’s funny how sometimes you can set out to do one thing, and then completely turn around and do something else. I’m of the opinion that the UFC is putting on way too many shows. The interest varies across the board due to some cards boasting big-name stars on the marquee while others simply have nameless faces posing as feature attractions.

With approximately forty-five events scheduled for 2014, the UFC runs the risk of over-saturating the market which will lead to customer fatigue. However, what if every event was must-see TV? As I was writing an article for the Camel Clutch Blog, my analysis of the situation has changed my position on the matter. There is a method to the Zuffa onslaught of shows that could pay huge dividends going forward.

Robocop vs. The Terminator HC Review

I remember when the Frank Miller cybernetic crossover first hit comic book shelves in 1992. Seeing Walt Simonson’s vibrant and action-filled cover made me drool in anticipation. Unfortunately, my parents grounded me for some fifth-grade hijinks, which prevented me from reading comic books for almost a year.

I never went back to read it when my sentence ended, but thanks to Dark Horse Comics, I get to revel in a lost relic of my childhood.

The strength of this story lies in the portrayal of Robocop’s humanity. The fact that his existence leads to the creation of Skynet makes perfect sense and works flawlessly. The narration is informative and never takes the foot off the pedal when conveying the gravity of the situation.

Time travel storylines are either done very well or very poorly, and Miller seamlessly switches back and forth between timelines as futures and pasts consistently checkmate each other in an attempt to save their version of reality.

Whoever coined the phrase less is more never saw Walt Simonson’s artwork as splash pages, and “Krunch” and “Gronk” moments kept my eyes glued to the page. Steve Oliff’s coloring brings a gritty sense of wonder and despair to these images.

This newly restored edition is perfect for those who want a good crossover with depth and awe and those who want to enjoy it again for the first time.

Why Transformers: Age of Extinction Falls Flat

I had the displeasure of watching a heaping pile of rubbish explode onto a movie screen called Cade Yeager Saves the World. You probably know it by its more popular name. Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Let’s get this out of the way. I’m not a Michael Bay hater by any means. I’m a big fan of the first Transformers film, loathe the second one with unbridled passion, and enjoyed the third one. However, this installment brought nothing new to the table, and that’s the least of its problems.

Money in the Bank: Cashing in on Old Faithful

The WWE Network era produced another solid pay-per-view offering with Money in the Bank that gave us a firm direction of where we are heading this summer. There were some hits and misses throughout the evening, but John Cena winning his 15^th world title left some fans disillusioned citing, “Same old #&$@*.”.

Ten Greatest WWE Tag Team Champions of All Time

Tag Team matches are a staple of professional wrestling. Sadly, their divisional significance is a far cry from its glory days in the ’80s and ’90s. These matches often steal the show, and the tag team champions’ prestige is the ultimate motivation. The four-person dynamic produces twice the action, leading to twice the drama of a singles match, especially double-team finishing maneuvers. Tag-team wrestling is an art form that is beautiful when done right. Many teams have held the titles over the years, but where do they rank? Who are the best of the best? Today, I rate the ten greatest WWE Tag-Team Champions of all time.

ROH Best in the World’ 14 Delivers the Goods

Over the years, Ring of Honor has failed more times than it’s seceded when speaking to my preference of professional wrestling. Last night, that wasn’t an issue as Best in the World’ 14 exceeded my expectations by relating to the fan inside who watches wrestling for the actual wrestling. While there were some missteps along the way, the passion that ROH prides itself on was on full display as wrestlers worked incredibly hard to put on a show that people will remember.
