The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spins A Web of Mixed Results

Sony’s decision to reboot the Spider-Man movie franchise so soon after Sam Rami’s trilogy of films was damned with faint praise, which was the reaction to their first film, even though it made over $750,000,000 worldwide. Director Marc Webb’s second installment of The Amazing Spider-Man has also received a tangled web of criticism. I understand why people liked AMS 1 even though I feel it was an uninspired telling of the wall crawler’s exploits. This time around, despite some of its problems, I enjoyed AMS 2.

Year one highlighted the Man of Steel’s thirst for power as personal tragedy pushed him to the breaking point. Now that he’s obtained power through his own brand of law and order, we get to see how he keeps it all intact.

WrestleMania 30: “The Greatest WrestleMania of All Time”

WrestleMania 30 was a celebration of wrestling’s past and present that has plotted the course to an exciting and prosperous future. With new blood rising, the fall of a legend, and a hero’s conquest, this years “showcase of the immortals” is something we won’t soon forget.

The show kicked off with the familiar sound of Rick Derringer’s “Real American” as Hulk Hogan, this year’s host, welcomed everyone to the Silverdome and was quickly corrected by over 75,000 fans inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Hulkster took it in stride and talked about some of his greatest moments until he was cut off by the ominous breaking of glass and Stone Cold Steve Austin making his way to the ring. Austin and Hogan stare each other down in a surreal moment. This will always be considered the wrestling dream match that got away. Plus, their personal problems with each other are well documented. It was nice to see them be able to work together in such a capacity.

Austin pumped up the crowd with his verbal “Hell Yeah” hijinks until The Rock made his way to the ring. This was a true WrestleMania moment unfolding before our eyes as the three biggest names in the history of the business were in the same ring at the same time. Rock hugged both of them and gave them props for their contributions to the industry. He also put over John Cena, which unleashed some boo birds from the crowd, and quickly mentioned Daniel Bryan, which turned the jeers to cheers. Fear Agent Volume 1: Re-Ignition 2nd Edition TPB Review

I was late to the Fear Agent party, and this exhilarating second edition is the perfect invitation. Like Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force, this is a well-constructed story that jars your mind in the best possible way. Maverick alien exterminator Heath Huston is good at his job. Time to Have Fun With Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery

Full disclosure. I’m a sucker for crossover events that involve my favorite childhood pastimes. So it should come as no surprise that I marked out ridiculously when the trailer for Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery hit the web. Think about this: as popular as wrestling was in the ’80s, Hulk Hogan never teamed up with our Scooby snacking canine. Now, our current crop of WWE Superstars joins the historic lineup of such luminaries as The Three Stooges, The Harlem Globetrotters, and Batman and Robin for some mystery-solving shenanigans.

H-Bomb Saves Dan Henderson in Brazil

They say styles make fights in Mixed Martial Arts. I like to think that stories make fights, too. Last night, Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua engaged in a rematch from their 2011 War of Attrition, which is considered one of the greatest fights of all time. This time, instead of a wild brawl, we were treated to a tactical affair that produced a different type of excitement that kept fans on the edge of their seat.

WWE Network Recommendations

I crawled into bed late last night to watch TV. Channel after channel, nothing tickled my fancy until I said “Hey, you have the WWE Network.” I logged onto my iPhone and fell asleep watching WrestleMania Rewind chronicling the iconic confrontation between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. The Shadow/Green Hornet: Dark Knights Vol 1 TPB Review

Team-ups in comics are nothing new. However, the way Michael Uslan does it brings style and guile to a great premise featuring two classic pulp heroes.

The Shadow and Green Hornet are no strangers to deep-rooted conspiracies and it’s their similar personality that makes them a perfect combination to foil a history altering plot.

Speaking of history, actual events tied into the main plot serves the story in dynamic fashion. What might have been weaved with what could have been paints the antagonist, Shiwan Khan, in a treacherous light.

As the reader, we know the outcome of events like World War II, but the thought that there was such a potent influence behind it all makes the stakes that much higher.

Keith Burns produces some masterful layouts throughout the book. The flair exhibited when an alligator breaks through walls and chews up folks, only for Kato to take it out with some Karate chopping action is a guilty pleasure worth experiencing.

Come to think of it, I might make it my screen saver. Dark Knights is a fantastic read that works because of how the adventure unfolds. The volume one in the title of the book makes me up this isn’t the last we’ve seen of this intriguing pairing.
