Kanan has been the unsung hero of Marvel’s Star Wars comic line. While it hasn’t appeared in the top ten selling comic books such Darth Vader or Shattered Empire, it’s the critical acclaim that has extended this book from a 5 issue mini-series to an ongoing series.

A lot of the credit goes to Greg Weisman who helped shape and establish the character of Kanan Jarrus when he was a writer on the first season of the Rebels animated series.

Kanan’s backstory if rife with many turbulent moments with the catalyst being the death of his master Depa Billaba. Seeing these moments in previous issues augmented Kanan’s current trust issues with clone trooper Captain Rex on the TV show. Continue reading “Kanan: The Last Padawan #7: Review” →

Supergirl Takes Flight

If you’ve watched any television program on CBS over the past several weeks, then you’ve seen the bombardment of advertisements for the newest show to enter the superhero fray.

Supergirl is here at last…officially. The fact that Supergirl was ordered to series before the pilot was even filmed tells you that CBS is banking on this property to become one of its flagship shows. Programming based on comic book entities is all the rage right now, so it’s a calculated risk.

In some ways, this is a chance for the network to succeed where DC Comics has failed with the character. The majority of Supergirl’s notoriety comes from the wide array of Halloween costumes you can buy in her likeness. Many of them are tailored toward promiscuous persuasion, therefore highlighting sexiness over heroism.

Arrow and The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti, along with executive producer Ali Adler, look to do the character justice as this is the first female lead superhero of a comic book show, which is kind of amazing considering the slew of Marvel films that have been released.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer and Poster Review

Sometimes, J.J. Abrams’ “Mystery Box” approach to promoting a film can be frustrating. However, this time, he is running on all cylinders as the trailer gave us a lot without spoiling much of anything. I still have no idea what this movie is about, but the revealed footage made my imagination run wild with possibilities.

Kylo Ren standing over the scorched Darth Vader helmet and vowing, “Nothing will stand in our way. I will finish what you started.” Wow, just, wow. What does that even mean? Did Vader have a grand design that none of us are aware of?

Does Kylo know that Vader turned good at the end of Return of the Jedi? We’ve had Sith lords that deal in absolutes, but never a dark side wielder that is clinically insane. Raw Ratings Suffer Despite Star Studded Lineup

WWE brought out the big guns this week in order to prevent what could have been a historically bad rating for Monday Night Raw. While the ratings did improve from last week’s record low number of 3.27 million viewers, it was only a slight increase to 3.35 million viewers. Even with the combined competition they faced, WWE can’t be happy with an increase of only 80,000 viewers considering the big names they had on the show. We’ve Finally Gone Back to the Future

This past Wednesday was October 21, 2015. The day when Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to in Back to the Future II. Movie theaters across the country held special screening of the BTTF films while websites displayed a fond remembrance for the franchise.

All of the activity throughout the day prompted me to watch Back to the Future when I got home from work. Maybe it was the nostalgia of it all, but I found myself completely absorbed in the final moments of the film when Doc connects the wires just in time for the lightning to hit the DeLorean and send Marty back home.

At best, I’m a casual fan of the trilogy, but I’ve gained a new-found appreciation for the first film. Will Raw Feel a Disturbance in the Force?

The highly anticipated trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere this evening during halftime of the Giants vs. Eagles Monday Night Football Game on ESPN. The game officially starts at 8:15 PM EST and the trailer is expected to air between 9:45pm and 10:00 PM. While this is great news for Star Wars fans, this could be horrible news for WWE. Star Wars: Shattered Empire #3

Even from beyond the grave, Emperor Palpatine will do anything to protect his secrets. Satellites have been sent to select planets across the galaxy to create typhoon strength storms that will destroy everything in their path.

The Absence of Snow as ECW Champion

There have been a lot of wrestling matches over the years where promoters booked the wrong person to win. While booking for financial gain isn’t an exact science, mistakes are made for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes a promoter wants to prolong the story in hopes of a larger return at the box office. Other times, these decisions are made simply to shock the audience with a curveball thrown out of nowhere.

There is one match in particular that took place in ECW where fans vehemently detested the end result, and I was one of those fans. After some information came to light, it turned out to be the right call even though it’s still a little disappointing that such a popular concept never reached its apex. Star Wars: Lords of the Sith: Book Review

Lords of the Sith is a cautionary that takes place 14 years before the Battle of Yavin and right before the events in James Luceno’s Tarkin.

I use the word cautionary as opposed to dark to describe the comings and goings of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine because if these characters were real and you wanted to kill them, this book would convince you to not only abandon your plans, but you wouldn’t dare to think of such a plot ever again.
