Superstars marks the newest foray into the comic book genre for WWE. While their previous efforts were met with little success, in essence, this offering has already succeeded where the others have failed because Mick Foley pens the script. The book reads like an episode of Monday Night Raw with several different story lines taking place within the noir landscape.

Chris Jericho’s Undisputed Renaissance

Chris Jericho Undisputed Champ

The main event of this Sunday’s TLC pay-per-view is scheduled to unify Randy Orton’s WWE title and John Cena’s World Heavyweight title. While one unified champion may emerge, they will not be the first. Twelve years earlier, Chris Jericho became the first undisputed champion at WWF’s year end event. There is a stark contrast, however, between Orton and Cena’s current status on the card and that of Jericho’s in 2001.

An Inconvenient Truth: John Cena and Randy Orton

20131125_TLC_CenaOrton

There is an inconvenient truth when it comes wrestlers in the WWE. It doesn’t matter how good their matches are, how hard they work, how loud the audience cheers for them, how good they make the company look in the media, or how much merchandise they sell. In the end, it’s all about John Cena and Randy Orton. It’s always been about them and until a new era is ushered in, nothing will ever change that. For the last eight years, no one has been booked stronger or protected more than Cena and Orton. They are the two performers that the company has put their faith in to lead them to the promised land because more than anyone else on the roster, they embody what it means to be a sports entertainer and not a professional wrestler.

The Future is NXT

nxt-logo

For my money, NXT is the best wrestling show going today. I love all things wrestling but WWE and TNA have become too formulaic. NXT brings a different flavor of professional wrestling that presents great action while getting a sneak peek into the future. This is the first installment of a weekly blog about all things NXT.

Remember When Mick Foley Fell off The Cell?

Mankind_vs_The_Undertaker_Hell_in_a_Cell_Match_King_of_the_Ring_1998_7

Do you remember where you were when the Undertaker threw Mankind off the top of the Hell in a Cell? I do, and I’ll never forget it. It was the June of 1998 and I had just finished my junior year of high school. King of the Ring was moments away, and I had earned a little extra money with my summer job in order to purchase it on pay-per-view.

Check out my Dean Ambrose vs. Rob Van Dam article at Get Real Wrestling

This writing thing has been a passion of mine for a long as I can remember. It didn’t dawn on me until a couple of years ago that I should start my on blog and try to get my name there through different outlets.

I was flatter and humbled when Get Real Wrestling.com invited me to be a part of their team and get paid to write. It’s the first time someone has asked me to write for them instead of the other way around so that must mean I’m doing something right.

It’s time to Ring the Damn Bell with SummerSlam.

summer

Growing up, SummerSlam used to fall on or near my Birthday so for me, it was the perfect way to close out the summer before heading back to school. I think Summer Slam could benefit from being stadium show like WrestleMania because there are more weather friendly venues in the summer time. Plus, it would truly give the event that “Biggest party of the Summer” feel.

The ladder match at Summer Slam 1995 between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon was a great match that captivated the audience from beginning to end. Unfortunately, it is a victim of its success because everyone remembers their classic encounter at WrestleMania 10, and as a result, the sequel gets lost in the shuffle.

A hallmark of SummerSlam is the amazing Intercontinental title matches. Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler in 2009 doesn’t get the credit it deserves. It was twelve minutes of bell-to-bell action that told a fantastic story in the process.

The fine folks over at Ring the Damn Bell invited me on as a guest blogger to help breakdown Top Five Summer Slam matches of all time. There have been so many amazing matches this event has produced over the years, it’s hard to narrow them down but that didn’t stop us from trying.

Undertaker vs. Undertaker: The Gravest Match In Summer Slam History

takervstaker

Column written for gerweck.net

I thought that Undertaker vs. Undertaker was going to be the greatest match of all time. To say I was wrong is a huge understatement. The forgettable encounter at Summer Slam 1994 is remembered as one of the most horrendous main events in wrestling history. As a kid, I ate up anything and everything that wrestling had to offer, but this was a match that can’t be defended.

Heyman Hustle Shines on Pay-Per-View

MITB13_Photo_302

Money in the Bank was an excellent event that pulled out all the stops and produced a great moment when Paul Heyman blindsided CM Punk with a ladder and cost him the MITB briefcase. These moments are normally reserved for Monday Night Raw. It’s not hard to understand why, considering that more people will always watch free Raw than a pay-per-view. Still, I would have bet any amount of money that the turn would have happened on Raw and build to a Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk match at Summer Slam.

Remembrance of Chris Benoit

Column I wrote for Gerweck.net

Chris Benoit was my professional idol. There, I said it. It’s something that no one except my close friends know. In a way, I’m ashamed of this even though no one could have predicted the horrific events that occurred six years ago this very day. I remember where I was when I heard the news about the murders. I had just gotten out of class and my friend Reid call me and said: “I have something to tell you and you should sit down.”
