Is it time to Reboot the WWE?

WWE Television is currently a stale product. Professional wrestling always has its down time before another boom period arrives. In order for the boom to take place, however, a new star needs to emerge. This person needs to be a bonafide superstar the caliber of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock. Simply being a wrestling star such as John Cena, CM Punk, and Randy Orton will not move the needle in the required direction. When this boom period finally occurs, it’s usually a wrestler who was waiting in the wings for their big break. These days, Dolph Ziggler is the usual suspect. He is a good worker but can he be the box office smash that brings the business to Attitude Era heights?

On October 1, 2012, Monday Night Raw drew its lowest rating in 15 years. The company improved its rating by having its 67-year-old chairman wrestle the WWE champion. While it was certainly an attention grabber, it was only a short-term solution since Vince can’t wrestle every week. While Raw moving back to two hours would be a move in the right direction, it doesn’t address the larger problem at hand. The process of booking by committee dilutes what storylines ultimately end up on television. If the big three can’t do any more than they already have and there is no legitimate heir apparent on the horizon; what else can be done?

Quick Rant on CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho WrestleMania Match.

Courtesy of WWE.com

Message board vultures are crapping all over the Punk vs. Jericho match from WrestleMania because it wasn’t the Steamboat/Savage encounter they were expecting. It’s an awful hard position to be in when you are expected to surpass what is arguably the greatest match of all time. It’s not as if Jericho and Punk said “Hey, let’s not try our hardest and see what happens”. They wrestled for 30 minutes and the crowd didn’t get into it until the 16 minute mark. Sometimes, when you put a wrestling match together, it sounds really good in your head but doesn’t translate as well when it’s time to execute the plan. They were hindered by a lack of crowd response, poor placement on the card and that stupid no disqualification stipulation. The last 10 minutes were fantastic to watch but it fell short of being one of those classic Mania matches you will remember forever.

Wrestling Soap Box: Cena, Kane, Jericho & more!

Welcome to the first installment of my Wrestling Soap Box where I will rant, rave, analyze and make bold predictions on the latest happenings in “sports entertainment”.

– If anyone wanted the blue print on how to make the worst horror movie ever than watch this weeks episode of Raw. Kane played the role of Jason Voorhees while  Zack Ryder and Eve Torres played the innocent victims being chased through the woods. They ran from him all episode and found shelter in Ryder’s rental car, only to discover that a tire was slashed. Did they run? No. Did they try to find another car? Nope. Did they call the police using Ryder’s cell phone that he was Tweeting all night from? Oops, I wasn’t supposed to notice that…….and no. Ryder tried to change the tire while Eve hid in the car while screaming in fright. I’m sorry but if I was Eve I would have bounced a long time ago.
