WWE served up another episode of Monday Night Raw that spun its wheels before it was saved with a surprise appearance by The Rock. John Cena got the crap kicked out of him on Sunday night. That is the only way to describe the Summer Slam main event between him and Brock Lesnar. There was a lot of talk about how this match was going to go. Some felt Lesnar should win while others felt he should never see the gold and leather of the world title due to his part time status. The main event for Summer Slam is set. Brock Lesnar will challenge John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Some are predicting a Lesnar victory while most feel he has no business being champion. However, it is business that is driving the decision to possibly make him the king of the mountain.

The WWE Network era produced another solid pay-per-view offering with Money in the Bank that gave us a firm direction of where we are heading this summer. There were some hits and misses throughout the evening, but John Cena winning his 15th world title left some fans disillusioned citing, “Same old #&$@*.”.

The main event ladder match at this Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view will crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Amazon.com may have spoiled the ending. If you go to their website and pre order the Summer Slam Blu-ray, scheduled for a September 14th release, the cover reveals that John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar will headline the biggest party of the summer. I really enjoyed Raw on Monday. Online chatter suggests the show was a failure and didn’t get them excited for Extreme Rules this Sunday. I saw something different. Yes, there were some things that made me scratch my head in confusion, but overall, it was a strong episode where the writing team has appeared to have gone outside of their wheelhouse and try different things. Full disclosure. I’m a sucker for crossover events that involve my favorite childhood pastimes. So it should come as no surprise that I marked out ridiculously when the trailer for Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery hit the web. Think about this: as popular as wrestling was in the ’80s, Hulk Hogan never teamed up with our Scooby snacking canine. Now, our current crop of WWE Superstars joins the historic lineup of such luminaries as The Three Stooges, The Harlem Globetrotters, and Batman and Robin for some mystery-solving shenanigans.

The Elimination Chamber was the last major stop on the road to WrestleMania and it left a mixed bag of results with the good heavily outweighing the mediocre. This also marks the end of the traditional PPV era as future shows will air on the WWE Network. I think it’s fitting that it went out with a good main event and great hope for the future.
