Kevin Owens Needs to Win at WWE Fastlane

It’s official, Goldberg will not only be facing Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33 on April 2, but he will also square off with Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship at Fastlane on March 5.

Both matches were made on Raw last night after Goldberg interrupted Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho in the ring. Goldberg accepted Lesnar’s challenge and then challenged Owens, which Chris Jericho accepted on behalf of his “best friend.”

If Goldberg beats Kevin Owens for the title, that means Brock Lesnar was essentially gifted a title match because he had the unprecedented luck in making the right challenge at the right time.

Under normal circumstances, if this was a shoot, Lesnar has no business getting a title shot after losing his last match to Goldberg in under two minutes. WWE creative, however, might ignore this aspect of the story and make it a title match anyways. Continue reading “Kevin Owens Needs to Win at WWE Fastlane”

Lucha Underground Invades Netflix

It turns out that the rumors of Lucha Underground leaving the El Rey Network have been greatly exaggerated. Wrestling promoter, writer and producer Court Bauer took to Twitter and revealed that LU seasons one and two will debut on Netflix on Wednesday, February 15.

Meanwhile, according to LU’s Facebook page, season three of the serial wrestling drama is scheduled to return from hiatus on Friday, May 31. While this is good news in the short term, the hiatus might not speak to LU’s long term future on El Rey.  Continue reading “Lucha Underground Invades Netflix”

Top Five Royal Rumble Eliminations

The Royal Rumble match always treats fans to some fun over the top rope eliminations. One elimination, in particular, saw Braun Strowman hurl the ill-suited James Ellsworth out of the ring with a chokeslam that sent him crashing to the floor, hip first.

Seeing this hip-crushing ejection got me thinking of some of the memorable Rumble match eliminations over the years that have stuck with me. Some made for great moments while others served as the kick-off to a bitter feud. Then there are those that are just plain terrible.  Continue reading “Top Five Royal Rumble Eliminations”

Road to the Royal Rumble is Heating Up

This Sunday’s Royal Rumble card appears to be finalized with eight matches that will be rounded out by the 30-Man Rumble match. The Kick-Off show will begin at 5:00 pm EST with the official pay-per-view beginning at 7:00 pm EST.

What I’m digging about this year’s Rumble is that I have absolutely no idea who is going to win. Normally, it’s easy to figure out the winner well in advanced based on story-line direction or if a particular wrestler is getting a main event push.

AJ Styles and John Cena will duke it out for the WWE Championship while Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns will battle in a No DQ match for the Universal Championship, which leaves four main event players out of the Rumble.  Continue reading “Road to the Royal Rumble is Heating Up”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Official Episode 8 Title Revealed!

Lucasfilm announced the official title to Star Wars: Episode 8 and it is…THE LAST JEDI.

This news is only going to heighten the excitement leading up to the scheduled release date of December 15, 2017. The possibilities regarding what this title could mean are almost endless. I made a video giving my thoughts the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker Saga.

Kurt Angle to Headline WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017

In what some would call a surprising development, it was announced last Monday that Kurt Angle will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on 3/31 over WrestleMania 33 weekend. Angle will headline the 2017 class with rumored names such as Diamond Dallas Page and Ravishing Rick Rude.

Angle made his WWE debut at Survivor Series 1999 and went on to be the first and only person to win every championship inside of one year. Angle is one of the best wrestlers of all-time and may be the best worker that WWE has ever produced as he was trained in their developmental system.  Continue reading “Kurt Angle to Headline WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: Review

rogue-one-poster

This review is super, super late. That thing called life kept getting in the way. Plus, I’ve only seen the movie twice…TWICE!!! I could lose my street credit for being so lazy.

Star Wars takes its first steps into a larger world by going backwards in its mythology. Rogue One is the first standalone film to occur outside of the cherished episodic saga and for the most part exchanged fantasy for pragmatism.

The sheen of fantasy that’s exhibited in The Force Awakens is replaced with a tattered, war-torn luster that beautifully coincides with the narrative of how the Rebels stole the plans to the Death Star.  Continue reading “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: Review”

The Undertaker enters the 2017 Royal Rumble

undertakerroyalrumble

The Undertaker returned to Raw on Monday and announced that he would be entering the 2017 Royal Rumble. The announcement was made during the top of the show’s second hour where Stephanie McMahon threatened GM Mick Foley with the possible loss of his job if ‘The Deadman’ didn’t appear.

Raw emanated from New Orleans where the Phenom’s WrestleMania streak was broken. Undertaker mentioned this to a course of boos and followed up with that he’s dug 29 holes for 29 souls. Undertaker closed the segment by vowing to win the Rumble and return to the main event of WrestleMania.

This was an interesting appearance on a few fronts. Taker stated that he goes where he wants, wherever he wants, and that no one controls him, which heavily suggests that he’s not going to be tied to one specific brand.  Continue reading “The Undertaker enters the 2017 Royal Rumble”

Brock Lesnar: Fined, Suspended, and it Stinks

BROCK

Former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE superstar Brock Lesnar received a one-year suspension earlier today by the Nevada Athletic Commission due to two failed drug tests for his fight with Mark Hunt at UFC 200 this past July.

Lesnar also agreed to pay a fine of $250,000 in a settlement, which equals to 10% of his disclosed $2.5 million purse for the fight. His unanimous decision victory over Hunt has been officially overturned into a no contest.  Continue reading “Brock Lesnar: Fined, Suspended, and it Stinks”
